WASHINGTON — David Cummins has been sworn in as the eighth Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration following his confirmation by the U.S. Senate.


President Trump nominated Cummins in May 2026 to lead TSA’s workforce of approximately 60,000 employees and oversee security operations at more than 430 airports nationwide. The agency also has federal security responsibilities for railways, mass transit systems, highways, pipelines and maritime transportation.

Cummins said his administration will focus on strengthening security while improving checkpoint efficiency and the passenger experience. His priorities include:

- Supporting TSA employees and improving workplace morale.
- Deploying new technology at airport checkpoints.
- Providing travelers with better information to reduce wait times.
- Strengthening transportation networks against drone and cyber threats.

Cummins brings extensive private-sector transportation experience, including partnerships with federal, state and local governments in the United States and abroad. He has overseen transportation strategy and acquisitions across 30 countries and co-holds 12 patents related to innovation projects.

He previously served as Director of Operations Management for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, where his work received the Project Management Institute’s International Project of the Year Award.

Cummins holds an MBA from the University of Michigan Business School, a master’s degree in international affairs from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Messiah University.
