Solis-led motion seeks housing assistance, continued community resources, a comprehensive cleanup plan and greater transparency for affected neighborhoods
EAST LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion introduced by Board Chair and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis calling on Lineage Logistics to provide clear commitments and additional support for communities affected by the June 17 warehouse fire in Boyle Heights.
Under the motion, the County will send a letter signed by all five members of the Board requesting that Lineage Logistics provide a written response within 48 hours detailing the company's plans to support ongoing recovery efforts.
The motion seeks continued financial and logistical assistance for residents, workers and businesses, as well as County-led recovery operations serving Boyle Heights, unincorporated East Los Angeles and western Commerce.
County officials are also seeking detailed plans from Lineage regarding debris removal, environmental monitoring, hazardous materials disposal, odor control and other remediation efforts associated with the fire.
At Solis' request, County departments provided the Board with updates on cleanup operations, environmental monitoring, public health guidance and assistance available to affected workers and businesses.
During the discussion, Solis questioned County officials about debris removal, public health safeguards, air and water quality monitoring, support for displaced workers and small businesses, reimbursement of County emergency response costs and long-term recovery planning.
“The emergency did not end when the flames were extinguished,” Solis said.
“Residents are still living with the impacts of this fire and deserve clear answers about the cleanup, the protections in place to safeguard public health, and the support available to help them recover,” she said.
“The County has mobilized significant resources to respond, but we cannot carry this effort alone. Lineage must provide the transparency, financial support and partnership needed to move this recovery forward and restore the community's confidence that this cleanup is being carried out safely and responsibly.”
Since the fire, Los Angeles County has worked with community-based organizations, federally qualified health centers and County departments to provide assistance through the Los Angeles County Community Resiliency Center and neighborhood resource sites.
More than 9,000 air purifiers, food boxes, crates of water and N95 masks have been distributed to affected communities. Residents have also received health screenings and assistance connecting with County programs and services.
The County has deployed 64 Disaster Service Workers to support ongoing recovery operations.
The Board-approved motion calls on Lineage Logistics to help sustain the Los Angeles County Community Resiliency Center and other County-supported response sites by providing food, water, N95 masks, air purifiers and other essential supplies.
The motion also seeks temporary and long-term housing assistance for affected residents, funding for community health services and community-based organizations, the establishment of a multilingual hotline and claims center, and direct participation by company representatives in community meetings with residents.
In addition, the County is requesting a comprehensive cleanup and remediation plan outlining debris removal milestones, hazardous materials disposal procedures, air and water quality monitoring, environmental oversight and truck hauling operations designed to minimize impacts on surrounding neighborhoods.
