TECHNOLOGY — Apple has acquired certain assets from observability software startup SigScalr and hired some of the company’s employees, expanding its technical capabilities in data logging, system monitoring, and developer tools.

Apple shares rose more than 1% on Monday, outperforming the broader market and briefly reaching a record high of $323.45.

According to information disclosed by the European Commission under the Digital Markets Act, Apple acquired certain SigScalr assets through a subsidiary and extended employment offers to some of the company’s employees. The transaction was completed on March 12.

SigScalr is the company behind SigLens, an open-source observability platform designed to help developers collect, search, and analyze logs, metrics, and tracing data generated by applications and infrastructure.

The company previously positioned SigLens as an alternative to services including Splunk, Datadog, and Elasticsearch, with a focus on lower resource usage and efficient data processing.

Following the transaction, SigScalr’s website ceased operations, while the main SigLens repository on GitHub was archived and made read-only.

The SigLens development team said the project will no longer receive updates, although the existing code will remain available for developers to review, copy, or build upon. The project’s license was also changed to the more permissive Apache 2.0 open-source license.

Apple has not disclosed the financial terms of the transaction or detailed how it plans to integrate SigScalr’s technology and personnel. The technology could potentially support cloud infrastructure, software monitoring, data analytics, or AI system operations, although Apple has not announced specific plans.

The transaction involved the acquisition of selected assets and the hiring of some employees rather than a full acquisition of SigScalr.
