LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger issued a joint statement thanking U.S. Senators Alex Padilla (D-CA), Adam Schiff (D-CA), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and John Curtis (R-UT) for their bipartisan effort urging Congress to include long-term disaster recovery funding in a supplemental appropriations package for communities devastated by the Palisades and Eaton wildfires.

The two leaders noted that while the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County and the State of California have worked together to secure recovery resources, the Administration's recent emergency funding request did not include critical long-term recovery funding needed by wildfire-affected communities.

They said Los Angeles families, businesses and neighborhoods have demonstrated remarkable resilience, but rebuilding on such a large scale requires continued support from every level of government to help families return home and businesses reopen.

Bass and Barger thanked the four senators for advocating on behalf of local communities and urged Congressional leaders to approve a supplemental disaster funding package consistent with previous requests from the City and County of Los Angeles.

They pledged to continue working with federal, state and local partners to rebuild communities and strengthen critical infrastructure so that Los Angeles emerges stronger and more resilient than before.
