Amazon has eliminated some positions within its artificial general intelligence unit as the company reallocates resources toward its highest-priority artificial intelligence projects.

The company did not disclose how many employees were affected by the latest round of job cuts.

Amazon said in a statement that sharpening its focus required “difficult decisions,” including eliminating certain roles within the AGI organization. The company added that it would continue investing in areas considered critical to delivering long-term value for customers.

“We have been developing large artificial intelligence models for years, and that work remains one of the company’s core priorities,” Amazon said. “The AI sector is evolving rapidly, and we are concentrating our resources on the projects that provide the greatest value to customers, allowing us to move faster in key areas.”

The cuts indicate that even as major technology companies continue to invest heavily in AI, they are also reviewing their operations and directing resources toward projects with the strongest strategic and commercial potential.

Amazon’s move follows a recent round of layoffs at Intel, which the chipmaker described as part of a broader strategic realignment.
