Samsung Electronics reported record quarterly revenue and operating profit on Thursday, driven by booming demand for artificial intelligence chips.
For the April-to-June period, revenue rose 130% from a year earlier to 171.49 trillion won. Operating profit surged 1,813.8% to a record 89.49 trillion won, nearly 19 times the amount reported a year earlier and broadly in line with the company’s previous estimate of 89.4 trillion won.
Second-quarter net profit reached 71.62 trillion won, or approximately $49.6 billion, representing a year-over-year increase of 1,299.9%. The overall results exceeded market expectations.
Samsung, one of the world’s largest memory-chip manufacturers, benefited from strong demand for high-bandwidth memory and other server memory products used in AI data centers. Growth in the semiconductor business helped offset weaker profitability in the company’s mobile division.
As investment in AI infrastructure continues to expand, demand for HBM and server memory remains strong, making Samsung’s semiconductor business the main driver behind its record-breaking quarter.
