The U.S. State Department issued a broad security alert on August 1, urging American citizens in the Middle East to consider leaving the region or prepare to depart quickly if the situation deteriorates.
The warning comes amid reports that Washington is considering a new round of military strikes against Iran, possibly as early as this weekend. Iranian officials have also warned that the country could expand its attacks to nations hosting U.S. military bases, further raising regional tensions.
The State Department advised Americans in the Middle East to remain vigilant, closely monitor local security developments and prepare for possible flight cancellations, temporary airspace closures and other travel disruptions.
U.S. citizens planning to travel to the region were also urged to reconsider their plans and review the latest travel advisories and flight information before departure.
