LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) Homicide Bureau has renewed its appeal for the public's help in solving the 2024 murder of 21-year-old Lanai Dees, as investigators continue searching for those responsible.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the suspect or suspects.
According to investigators, at approximately 12:40 a.m. on Nov. 17, 2024, Dees was driving a white Mercedes-Benz westbound through an alley near Century Boulevard and South Wilton Place in Los Angeles when a dark-colored midsize SUV approached from the opposite direction. A passenger inside the SUV fired a single shot through the driver's side window, striking Dees before the vehicle fled the scene.
Dees was transported for emergency medical treatment but later died from her injuries.
Although nearly two years have passed since the shooting, detectives said the investigation remains active and they continue to pursue every available lead.
During the news conference, Dees' mother, Dahlin Dees, described the lasting pain of losing her daughter.
"Every day I wake up knowing I will never see my daughter again," she said. "She was my baby girl, and an innocent life was taken away."
Her brother, Jordan Dees, urged anyone with information to come forward.
"I know someone knows what happened," he said. "Today it's my sister, tomorrow it could be yours. If you know something, please say something."
