ALHAMBRA, Calif. — To help local families better understand their health needs and prepare students for the upcoming school year, Chinatown Service Center recently hosted a community health fair at the CSC Health Center in Alhambra.
The event brought together free health screenings, professional consultations, community resources and back-to-school supplies. Many parents attended with their children, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere.
Nearly 20 health and community service booths were available throughout the event. Attendees received basic screenings for oral, vision, kidney and liver health, as well as testing for hepatitis B and C to help identify potential health risks at an early stage.
Nutritionists and acupuncturists were also on-site to provide professional advice on diet, daily habits and long-term health management. Residents of different ages had the opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance based on their individual needs.
Many families waited patiently for the available screenings. With summer vacation nearing its end, some parents brought their children for vision and dental examinations in hopes of detecting health issues that could affect their learning or daily lives before school begins.
Peter Ng, president and chief executive officer of Chinatown Service Center, said many parents are occupied with work and caring for their children, making it easy to overlook regular health checkups. CSC hopes its community-based health fairs can make basic screenings and medical information more accessible while encouraging residents to embrace the importance of preventive care.
“When health concerns are identified early, people often have more opportunities for treatment and improvement,” Ng said. “This event not only provides screenings but also reminds everyone to take an active role in caring for their own health and the health of their families.”
In addition to CSC’s medical team, participating organizations included ACE Pharmacy, Allied Pacific IPA, the American Heart Association, Amgen, the California Liver Research Center, Gilead Sciences and Rose Hills Memorial Park. Representatives provided information about disease prevention, health education and community resources.
As the new school year approaches, organizers also distributed school supplies to students, helping ease the cost of back-to-school preparations for local families. Children received useful learning materials while their parents took advantage of the available health services, allowing the event to address health, education and family needs in one setting.
Starbucks and Raising Cane’s provided refreshments, adding comfort and enjoyment to the warm summer event.
By combining free screenings, professional health guidance, community resources and school-supply distribution, the fair served as more than a one-day event. It also provided an important connection between healthcare services and the families who need them.
Chinatown Service Center said it will continue offering health and community programs that respond to residents’ needs, provide practical information and connect families with essential support.
