LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has awarded $350,000 to 35 small businesses through its Small Business Mobility Fund Launch Grant program. The funding will help entrepreneurs open or expand brick-and-mortar locations in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.

This marks the program’s second round of funding in 2026. An initial $105,000 was awarded to 12 businesses in April.

In the latest round, 30 businesses opening retail storefronts received $10,000 each, while five businesses moving into non-retail commercial spaces received $5,000 each. The funds may be used for tenant improvements, fa?ade upgrades, signage, permits, inventory and other expenses associated with opening a physical location.

The recipients represent a broad range of industries, including food and beverage, retail, health and wellness, and professional services. They include entrepreneurs rebuilding after wildfire-related displacement, first-time storefront owners and growing businesses opening additional locations.

“When we invest in local entrepreneurs, we invest in the long-term stability of our neighborhoods,” said Los Angeles County Second District Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell. She said the grants will help residents build businesses, create jobs and establish roots in the communities where they live.

DEO Director Kelly LoBianco said opening a storefront is both a major milestone and a significant financial hurdle for many small-business owners. The program is intended to help entrepreneurs turn their ideas into operating businesses while strengthening local commercial corridors and creating economic opportunities.

The Launch Grants are funded through Los Angeles County’s Care First Community Investment program and administered in partnership with ICON Community Development Corporation.

Applications for the current round of Launch Grants are closed. However, DEO continues to offer Formalization Grants to help eligible sidewalk vendors establish and grow legally operating businesses.
