CERRITOS — The Cerritos City Council has approved plans for a new DICK’S House of Sport at Los Cerritos Center and a major renovation of part of Carmenita Plaza North.

The approvals, granted during the Council’s July 27 meeting, represent significant new investments in the city’s retail sector.

DICK’S House of Sport will be built on the 4.65-acre former Sears site at Los Cerritos Center. Plans call for a 141,630-square-foot, two-story retail and sports-experience destination.

In addition to traditional sporting-goods retail, the facility will include indoor climbing walls, golf simulator bays, equipment demonstration areas and an outdoor athletic field with synthetic turf and a perimeter running track.

The company hopes to begin construction later this year and open the store in spring 2028.

Mayor Lynda Provido Johnson said the project will revitalize the northern anchor of Los Cerritos Center, attract visitors from across the region, create local jobs and generate additional sales-tax revenue.

The Council also approved improvements to Carmenita Plaza North. The project will renovate the facades of three buildings on the northern portion of the shopping center, including a vacant large anchor space, several commercial storefronts and an existing bank building.

Portions of the shopping center’s landscaping and paved areas will also be refurbished and upgraded.
