SACRAMENTO — Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a State of Emergency in Calaveras County in response to the Gann Fire, directing state agencies to support local emergency operations and protect public health and safety.
The proclamation authorizes the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and other state agencies to provide additional assistance and resources as needed for firefighting, evacuations, recovery efforts and the protection of surrounding communities.
High temperatures and low humidity have increased fire danger across the county. The Gann Fire threatens homes, structures and critical infrastructure, including transmission and distribution lines that supply electricity to much of Northern Calaveras County.
Governor Newsom thanked first responders for helping residents evacuate, protecting homes and battling the fire. He also expressed appreciation to local officials, volunteers and community organizations working to establish shelters, assist residents and care for those in need.
