WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Grace Meng (D-NY), Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), called on Congress to pass the American Dream and Promise Act of 2025 (H.R. 1589), saying the legislation would provide millions of eligible immigrants with a pathway to permanent residency and U.S. citizenship.

Speaking at a Capitol Hill press conference, Meng said the bipartisan bill would benefit eligible Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients, including more than 430,000 Asian and Pacific Islander Dreamers and over 10,000 TPS holders from Myanmar and Nepal.

An original cosponsor of the legislation, Meng has also signed the discharge petition that would force a House floor vote once it receives the required 218 signatures.

Meng said many Dreamers have grown up in the United States, attended American schools, built careers and raised families, yet continue to face uncertainty because of their immigration status.

"Congress has the power to change this," Meng said, urging lawmakers to establish a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who already consider the United States their home.

CAPAC has officially endorsed the legislation and pledged to continue advocating for immigrant communities, emphasizing that "home is here."
